Sunday 28th April: Kerry Ridgeway
Starting point: Please meet the leaders Pam and Vicky ready to start the walk at 10 am from the village of Kerry. In the village turn left off the main road immediately before the pub and then first right to the Village Hall. Proceed beyond the Village Hall section of the CP to park beyond. No charge. There are toilets. Grid Ref: SO146899 W3W: floating.resurgent.belief
Directions: One route from Bridgnorth is to follow A458 and the B4368 to Craven Arms. Turn right on A49 for just over a mile. Turn left on A489 towards Bishops Castle and Newtown. Continue on A489 to Lydham where you turn right and then left back onto the A489 to Church Stoke and so to Kerry. A distance of 44 miles and time about 1 hr 10 mins. CAUTION The A489 is currently closed between Horderley and Plowden but should be open again by the 28th - CHECK. An alternative route may be needed from Craven Arms via Aston-on-Clun and Little Brampton. Then Lydbury North and Bishops Castle.
The walk: The walk passes through beautiful and remote countryside and starts by going south from the village, crossing fields and then tracks and field paths climbing gradually uphill. We pass Lower and Upper Cwm-y-dalfa farms, walk alongside Nant Meheli and then up to the ridgeway at SO119852 (Two Tumps Tumuli). We will have been ascending steadily for about 4 miles with wonderful views throughout. We walk along the ridgeway (field and track) for about 1 mile with wide open views and gradually downhill, before descending northwards (from SO144862) via Lower Rhos, Lower Bryn-Llywarch and back to Kerry. The route can be followed on OS Explorer 214.
Distance - about 9.5 miles Total Ascent - about 1800ft Grade – B/B+
Please contact Pam to let her know if you intend to come.
Those booked on the walk will be contacted if it has to be altered. This avoids us having to inform all members. We’ve also found it very helpful to walk leaders for them to have a good idea of the number of people to expect.
There are no longer any legal restrictions on us due to COVID-19. However, we are encouraged to continue to take sensible precautions. We request that you:
